Sweet Obsession: Barnana

I happened upon Barnana snacks at Whole Foods and I am now totally obsessed. They are little bits of banana covered in peanut butter ... AND they're non-GMO, organic, gluten free, kosher and vegetarian. I'm not totally sure why they aren't vegan (I can't see any animal products on the ingredient list), but aside from that, they are pretty much the perfect sweet indulgence.

Barnana also makes these snacks in other flavors: Organic Original Chewy Banana Bites, Organic Chocolate and Organic Coconut. I highly recommend them, even though they are on the pricy side (around $4 for a small bag).

It would be awesome to figure out how to make a version of these. If any of you savvy cooks out there come up with anything, please let me know!

Favorite Savory Snack: Pop Chips

One of my fave savory gluten free indulgences when I want a snack are popchips. The potato popchips come in seven different flavors (sour cream and onion are my pick), and have no preservatives, no fake flavors, no GMO and no fake colors. Definitely a better alternative to greasy, fried potato chips, these chips easily satisfy any snack craving. All products made by popchips are gluten free and have been officially certified by the gluten-free certification organization (http://www.gluten.net/); a program of the gluten intolerance group®, also known as gig®.

For the best price on popchips, I order them on Amazon.

Diet Staple: KIND Bars

The KIND Snacks tag line is: Ingredients you can see and pronounce — a philosophy that I wholeheartedly agree with. The general awesomeness of KIND bars in no new revelation. Found in grocery stores and at Starbucks counters everywhere, these awesome gluten free and vegetarian bars have become one of my diet staples, especially when I am traveling.

As most celiacs know, sometimes you find yourself stuck with nothing edible in sight. As your blood sugar drops and your resolve to keep living begins to dwindle, you would do anything to get your hands on something gluten free to eat. Frustrated with this feeling, I now stock up on KIND bars in bulk.  Last year I took a trip to Jordan, and I'm not sure what I would have done without the case of KIND bars that I stashed in my suitcase. They have also really come in handy when I have been stuck in airports (thanks for nothing Terminal 3 at LAX) and on airplanes that offer nothing in the way of gluten free snacks.

I highly recommend investing in a case of KIND bars to keep on hand (also great to stash a few in the car). They have become one of my number one travel necessities. I buy mine off Amazon for the best price!
