Fast Food Gets Healthy With Amy's Drive Thru

This past July, health food brand Amy's officially opened their first fast food drive thru restaurant in Northern California's Rohnert Park. According to the brand: Amy's Drive Thru is returning to the roots of American fast food, serving lovingly handcrafted food to nourish hard-working citizens, busy families and road-weary travellers.

While I personally haven't been, so far, the feedback on the restaurant has been amazing, and they have a nice selection of gluten free and vegan options (apparently the whole menu can be altered to be vegan or gluten free). The restaurant is totally vegetarian, and even their chocolate milkshakes are made from a blend of almond and coconut milk. The best part is their average price point is $3 and change — so eating clean on the go CAN be affordable.

I love this concept and hope that healthy, gluten free food continues to become accessible nationwide. Apparently the company is planning to open a second location later this year, but if you ever find yourself en route to Napa or Sonoma, take a detour off the 101 and stop in!

Diet Staple: KIND Bars

The KIND Snacks tag line is: Ingredients you can see and pronounce — a philosophy that I wholeheartedly agree with. The general awesomeness of KIND bars in no new revelation. Found in grocery stores and at Starbucks counters everywhere, these awesome gluten free and vegetarian bars have become one of my diet staples, especially when I am traveling.

As most celiacs know, sometimes you find yourself stuck with nothing edible in sight. As your blood sugar drops and your resolve to keep living begins to dwindle, you would do anything to get your hands on something gluten free to eat. Frustrated with this feeling, I now stock up on KIND bars in bulk.  Last year I took a trip to Jordan, and I'm not sure what I would have done without the case of KIND bars that I stashed in my suitcase. They have also really come in handy when I have been stuck in airports (thanks for nothing Terminal 3 at LAX) and on airplanes that offer nothing in the way of gluten free snacks.

I highly recommend investing in a case of KIND bars to keep on hand (also great to stash a few in the car). They have become one of my number one travel necessities. I buy mine off Amazon for the best price!
