Last weekend I had the absolute pleasure of visiting Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes Estates in Los Angeles. Nestled on a 102-acre private peninsula, this resort is just across the channel from Catalina Island (making it a very easy commute from Los Angeles). From the moment we arrived we were blow away by the beautiful property, as well as by the outstanding service. After spending the afternoon sipping cocktails and lounging by the adult pool (featured above), we eventually got hungry. So, on to the important stuff: the gluten free food.
I checked out their pool bar menu and nothing except their chips, salsa and guac were gluten free. While other restaurants on the property offered gluten free menu items, their pool service did not. I asked our server if they could provide any gluten free options, and I was immediately referred to one of the managers, Jennifer. I can't say enough good things about the service Jennifer provided us. She took the liberty of heading up to Catalina Kitchen (another property restaurant) to retrieve their menu, which had many gluten free options. Jennifer then placed a special lunch order for us, and brought my club sandwich down when it was ready. I was beyond impressed with how Jennifer handled the allergy, and ensured that the food I was eating was completely safe.
Later that night, we headed to Catalina Kitchen again for dinner. I was able to enjoy their Sliced Filet Mignon which was served over risotto, and the Pappardelle Bolognese with gluten free pasta. Both were fantastic. And again, we had a great dining experience.
I would highly recommend Terranea for any Celiac / gluten free foodie looking to splurge on a luxury weekend away. Terranea went above any beyond to make sure I enjoyed my experience there, and I will definitely be back!
